Trauma Informed Learning Workshop - January 27, 2017

The need to identify, address and provide resources for trauma-informed learning in higher education is gaining momentum as awareness of the impact of developmental trauma on adult learning comes into greater focus. Faculty members have the unique opportunity to assist these learners who often feel displaced and outside of the typical learning process and help them anchor and engage in the classroom in ways that allow them to persist and attain their educational goals. Below are resources shared during a faculty workshop on January 27, 2017, which explored the differences between shock trauma and developmental trauma, how to identify developmental trauma in students, and how to implement trauma-aware strategies in the classroom. Also included is a video from the workshop of a panel of students who shared their experiences and insights as learners with developmental trauma.
