OCCA Board Member Training

This event has ended. Thank you to all the participants who attended!

Saturday, September 7, 2024
Chemeketa Community College Eola Center, Salem

WHAT: Join community college board members and presidents from around the state for this one-day training & networking opportunity. You’re invited to join your colleagues for an engaging social and networking dinner the night before (speaker for the dinner event will be announced soon!).

WHO: This training is ideal for ALL community college board members and presidents in Oregon. Registration has closed for this event.

SPEAKERS: We’ve revamped the Board Training event this year, with several national speakers and presenters on hand to provide a valuable training experience for community college board members and presidents.

  • We are excited to bring Sonny Ramaswamy, President of the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities (NWCCU), who will share some best practices and advice on how board members can take a more proactive role in accreditation.
  • In addition, through generous support from Essential Partners, OCCA is able to offer a comprehensive afternoon training session on the principles of civil discourse with practical skills to navigate contentious issues respectfully and productively. We look forward to welcoming a highly skilled trainer in this area to lead the workshop.

Other training topics will include:

  • How OCCA can serve the needs of board members/colleges
  • What you should know about the new public meeting laws
  • Effective and strategic board meetings – tips for building consensus and focus on the board’s policy governance role
  • Strategies to combat the looming enrollment cliff
