OCCA celebrates National Community College Month in April

April 1, 2026 – The Oregon Community College Association (OCCA) is celebrating April as National Community College Month, recognizing the critical role Oregon’s 17 community colleges play in expanding opportunity and driving student success across the state.

Community colleges WORK for Oregon by widening access to education, fueling career pathways, strengthening communities, and keeping Oregon’s workforce competitive. From hands-on career and technical education to transfer pathways and workforce training, community colleges deliver real results for students and employers alike.

National data continues to show strong public confidence in community colleges, with Americans consistently ranking them as the best value in higher education.

“Community colleges are where opportunity starts,” said Dr. Abby Lee, Executive Director of OCCA. “They open doors for students from all backgrounds and provide flexible, affordable pathways to careers and continued education. Every day, we see the impact in the lives of students and the strength of our communities.”

Oregon’s community colleges serve more than 200,000 students each year, preparing learners for good-paying jobs, further education, and lifelong success.

“Community colleges are nimble, responsive, and deeply connected to their communities,” said Andrew Speer, OCCA Board President. “They are essential to Oregon’s workforce and to student success. Simply put, community colleges work for Oregon.”

Throughout April, Oregon’s 17 community colleges will showcase student stories, programs, and partnerships on social media, highlighting the many ways they serve their communities.

OCCA encourages Oregonians to learn more about their local community college and join in celebrating the impact of these vital institutions.
